Frank P. Lahm, Flight 9, Scholarships
The Order of Daedalians offers a National Headquarters scholarship program, administered from the office at P.O. Box 249, Randolph AFB, Texas 78148. This National program presents awards to distinguished aviation organizations and individuals, and awards medals and certificates to ROTC, Civil Air Patrol, and other aviation oriented organizations. Individuals do not apply for these awards; rather, the National organization seeks out organizations and individuals for suitable candidates. Frank P. Lahm Flight 9 participation is generally limited to presenting National awards to close-by organizations and individuals.
Take note, however, that the Wright-Patterson Flight 9 sponsors its own
scholarship program governed by National Order guidelines. Courtesy of bequests
and member contributions, an ongoing fund provides scholarships to outstanding
junior year college ROTC cadets from local area universities. Also eligible are
cadets at other universities who are nominated by Flight 9 members. Cadets must
be planning to attend pilot training after commissioning. The program varies
yearly, dependent on funding. In past years, awards were made to cadets at
regional Universities of $2,500 and $1,000 each.
Qualifications: College applicants are enrolled in their junior year and must be
competing to attend pilot training. High school applicants are in their senior year, and applicants must, if selected, enroll in college ROTC the subsequent autumn to receive their
awards.
Deadlines for application for next year's awards will be approximately 31
January 2005. Point of contact is Flight 9 scholarship chairman at
Scholarship@Flight-9.org.
